to stay vegan again. i did it
for ten years but then i dated an albino
& all we had in common was techno,
pizza, bowling, & beer. we was the strangest
lowbrow eurotrash motherfuckers
you’d never want to encounter
in that little alleyway that goes from your fave
pub to your allnight superpub that serves
margaritas made with snapple cos the entire wait
staff’s on E & it is still 1998 there.
i was vegan back then & so thin
& i wanna debut my back to vegan body
the way stars female celebs debut
postbaby bodies. ta da. behind
that curtain is a smaller behind & behind
another curtain is a laugh track & a PETA ad
full up with nudies not drinking milk &
behind another curtain let’s make a deal
for the veal calves & the leather on my
fave boots & my dog eats kale

Ryder Collins has a novel, Homegirl! Her chapbook, The way the sky was now, won Heavy Feather Review’s first fiction chapbook contest, and she has two chapbooks of poetry, i am hopscotch without hop and Orpheus on toast. She wants to pull a cloud down from the sky & give it to you.
